Update
Thanks to everyone who helped me with my Eagle Scout Project. With the help of 32 volunteers, I built a tiny home that is now providing shelter to a homeless member of our community in a village designed by the Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI). It took 218 hours of volunteer time to build the house. Plus, a total of $2,900 was raised to help off-set the building supply costs. Doing this project gave me the opportunity to learn more about the needs of homeless in our community, construction, leadership and fundraising. As of June 2019, I realized my goal of obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Again, thanks to everyone who helped! If you want to see the project, I posted photos and a video here.
I began my scouting adventure at the age of 11 and am now a Life Scout having completed 22 merit badges. I have been active in my troop (166) and have held several leadership positions for many of those years. My journey is now at the point where I am working toward earning the highest and most honored rank in Scouting, that of Eagle Scout.
To earn the Eagle rank I must plan, develop, and provide leadership to others in a service project that is helpful to the community. For my Eagle Scout Project, I have chosen to build a tiny home for the Low Income Housing Institute of Seattle (LIHI).* This project will benefit people in need of temporary housing until they have the opportunity to get into permanent housing.
To do this project, I will need the support of my community both in terms of volunteers and monetary donations. I have put together an online volunteer signup for the construction phase of the project. I would be grateful to have your support. Please visit this website to sign up for days/hours that work with your schedule. Signup.
Finally, this is a big project, and along with around 300 hours of volunteer labor, it will cost approximately $2,700 for the materials. As part of my project, I am going to attempt to raise the funds to offset the cost of the materials necessary for construction of this project. Any financial assistance you can offer to help me achieve my goal of completing this project will be greatly appreciated. No amount is too small, and in the unlikely event any funds remain after the project is finished, they will go directly to LIHI. Please donate below.*
After starting on my project, in December, LIHI sent out a news letter featuring my project along with another scout's Eagle Project. It's very exciting to see your name in print. Check it out here.
Thanks so much for your consideration in supporting my project by volunteering or donating. Should you have any questions, I can be reached at benosmailbox@gmail.com.
